The second phase of the Project of Responding to the Needs of Developing Local Capacities for the Education of Literacy & Disabled Students, implemented by Yamany Foundation (YDH) with funding from King Salman Center, was launched today in Aden.
The project, which will last for 9 months, aims to provide qualitative and sustainable educational opportunities for targeted groups in Aden, Hadhramaut, Al-Dhal’, Lahj, Shabwa, and Al-Mahra governorates. The number of beneficiaries of the project was 9,747 of women, men, girls and boys, including 73.2% of people with disabilities (6,527 people with disabilities), 26.7% of literacy students (2,389 literacy students) and 831 educational staff in the centers and targeted schools in the targeted governorates.
During the launching, which was held in the presence of The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Saleh Mahmoud, The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Dr. Mohammed Lamlas, The Uundersecretary of Aden governorate Mr. Awad Mabjar, General Coordinator of the Relief Committee Shaikh Jamal Balfaqih, Deputy Director of King Salman Center (KSRelief) Mr. Naif Assiri, Executive Director of the Fund for the Care of the Disabled Dr. Najwa Fadl, General Director of the Literacy System in Aden governorate Dr. Esam Al-Moqbili, Director of the Associations Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs Mr. Mohammed Al-Samati, The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs Dr. Saleh Mahmoud stressed the importance of the project, which will contribute to institutions interested in people with disabilities and education literacy in our country, which is facing great challenges due to the war, which has doubled the number of disabled people and raised the illiteracy rate among society.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs praised the efforts of King Salman Center and Yamany Foundation in implementing development projects that touch the lives of citizens.
For her part, the Executive Director of the Disabled Care Fund, Dr. Nagwa Fadl, praised the signing of the project agreement that meets the needs of education in the field of literacy and people with disabilities, at a time when the government’s role has declined by providing support to those institutions interested in an important segment of society, pointing out that the total number of people with disabilities in the liberated governorates has reached nearly 4 million, and that the disabled care fund is facing great challenges as a result of the economic conditions it is going through.
As, Dr. Najwa Fadl said that everyone today has a great responsibility to provide care for people with disabilities and eliminate illiteracy, which has spread significantly as a result of the war, praising the role of King Salman Center, through Yamany Foundation, in providing development projects that address the needs of these segments, wishing the continuation and expansion of the project activity to include a larger number in various governorates.
For his part, the General Director of Literacy in Aden, Dr. Esam Al-Moqbili, said that the project was a simulation of a painful reality as a result of illiteracy, which is sounding the alarm after it exceeded 50%, as one of the results of the war, noting that illiteracy is a disaster for society and the national security of the country, warning the concerned authorities of the phenomenon of students dropout and the spread of illiteracy, which means murder, terrorism and destruction of all life values.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, Mohammed lamlas, added that the signing of the Capacity Development Project agreement to teach literacy students will enhance the ministry’s role, through the literacy system, in fighting against illiteracy through literacy classrooms in the targeted governorates, reviewing many activities implemented by the ministry in cooperation with partners, foremost of which is King Salman Center (KSRelief) and Yamany Foundation, the implementing partner in this aspect.
For his part, the Programs Director at Yamany Foundation, Dr. Anas Saif, explained that the project, which will last 9 months, aims to provide sustainable educational opportunities and respond to the needs of literacy students and people with disabilities in the targeted governorates, expressing his appreciation to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its humanitarian positions, as well as to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Ministry of Education for their cooperation as implementing partners.
A motion graphic presentation was also presented at the ceremony, explaining the stages of the project’s implementation and its importance in supporting and enhancing the role of literacy institutions and people with disabilities. A success story of the project in its first phase was reviewed, along with technical paragraphs from the targeted groups, which were well received by the attendees.
On the sidelines of the launching , memoranda of understanding were signed between the Foundation and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, also the Foundation and the Ministry of Education, in the presence and approval of the donor represented by the Deputy branch of King Salman Center (KSRelief), Mr. Naif Asiri.
